Biography
Dr. Kahupi, also known as Ina, completed his Doctorate Degree in Business and Management from Newcastle University, UK and KEDGE Business School, Paris, France. The doctoral research focused on Organizational Business Strategy and the Adoption of Emerging Sustainable and Circular business models with a comparative and international integration found in the adoption of practices housed within Institutional Theory. His dissertation was received and his degree awarded with “No Corrections” by the Doctoral Committee under the supervision of Professor Natalia Yakovleva.
Dr. Ina was a recipient of 3 life-changing academic scholarships including the Fulbright Scholarship – the United States government’s flagship program of international educational and cultural exchange, that offers passionate and accomplished students and scholars to study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to mutual understanding. The Fulbright program is renowned for having graduates that serve in all areas of life including 41 having served as Heads of State or Government, 62 winners of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, and 89 Pulitzer Prize Recipients. Other scholarships include the NCRST Scholarship and the Chinese Scholarship Council respectively.
His master's project was awarded the 2020 Global Citizen Award from the Rochester Institute of Technology, New York, USA. The Global Citizen Award is awarded to a colleague who has demonstrated an ability to bring people together across cultural and national backgrounds through leadership, service, or academic collaboration. His academic journey includes three Masters’ degrees: a Master of Research from Newcastle University, UK; a Master of Science in Sustainable Systems from Rochester Institute of Technology, New York, USA, and the Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering from Namibia University of Science and Technology. He also completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, China.
Dr. Ina worked in various leadership roles including serving as the Postgraduate Representative at Newcastle University Business School, Graduate Student Ambassador at the Golisano Institute of Sustainability in New York, and as a Business Analyst at Venture Creations Business Incubator in New York, which houses more than 50 companies with a capital investment of more than US$ 250 million for incubator companies. The work included access to resources such as hands-on coaching, funding connections, access to investors, connections with the entrepreneurial community and creating business plans.
Dr. Ina has published in various reputable peer-reviewed journals, most recently an article in the Journal of Cleaner Production, which is #26 on Google Scholar’s list of the 100 journals with the highest h-5-index in 2022 and a book chapter published in a book on Social Dimensions of the Circular Economy, Springer in 2023. His recent publication was submitted to the Journal of Business Ethics.
Dr. Ina acknowledges that sustainable practices and businesses are on the rise in developing countries found in Africa. This is because they are proving to be a crucial element in a country's transition towards a more sustainable future. Competitive sustainable businesses are not only contributing to the economies but also prioritizing the well-being of the environment and the communities involved. With the government's support and the increasing demand for sustainable products, the future looks promising for sustainable practices and businesses. For example, the government of Namibia has also taken significant steps to promote sustainable practices and businesses in the country. In 2020, the Namibian government launched its Green Economy Plan, which aims to transition the country towards a more sustainable economic model. The plan includes initiatives to promote sustainable tourism, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy.
